Google and Apple return TikTok to their mobile app stores

TikTok returned to Apple and Google’s app stores late Thursday after former President Trump delayed enforcement of a federal ban on the platform. The app was removed in January ahead of a Supreme Court-upheld ban requiring its Chinese owner, ByteDance, to sell it to a non-Chinese company.
Apple and Google initially blocked TikTok from their U.S. stores, and the app was shut down nationwide. However, following Trump’s assurance that he would prevent fines against the company, TikTok resumed operations. Despite this, Apple and Google maintained their bans until the Justice Department, under Trump’s order, sent letters ensuring they wouldn’t face legal consequences.
A Google spokesperson confirmed TikTok’s return, while Bloomberg News reported that Apple reinstated it after receiving assurances from Attorney General Pam Bondi. Apple and DOJ representatives declined to comment.
